Example

My friend posted her picture online. And one of my friend commented on that photo. But my friend who posted the photo reacted to my friend who posted a comment. And then the conflict between them started. As a media literate individual, I will help them to settle their misunderstanding.

Value of Being Media and Information Literate Individual

   According to Ian Selinsky, “Literacy is one of the greatest gifts a person could receive”. Being literate individual mean able to read and write, has a competency to understand things, and applied everything they learned in their daily lives. While a media and information literate individual are those who has the ability to understand different types of media and can evaluate a certain information and use it effectively. Hence, why does being a media and information literate individual is important?

          Nowadays, there are so many cases of scamming especially in social media like facebook, twitter, instagram and more. Here are some examples of top online scams used by cyber criminals, stated by Cristina Chipunci. First and the most popular scam is the money laundering which starts into an emotional message wherein they will disguise as a government official or a businessman who will ask help in retrieving a large sum money from bank and in return, they promise to give a large sum of money. But that was just a promise. Another one is the romance scams, especially male scammers who will send a romantic message to have the attention of the female victim and then their conversations lead into a romantic one, the scammer will set a place for meeting up the victim and she will be kidnapped and ask money from the family. So, to avoid scamming, we have to be a media and information individual. Because if we are literate one, we could analyze and determine which media is reliable and which information is true of not. Further value of being a media and information literate person is to keep away from being victim and to victim others in form of cyber bullying. And teenagers are mostly involved that lead into suicide. So, in every like, reactions, comments, messages of post we are going to make, we must think over and over and ask ourselves. “Is it okay”, “what if I could hurt his/her feelings?”. Yes, we have to be sensitive when it comes to their feelings and we must comprehend the information so that we know what we are going to do. Remember “be kind to others”, and of course for ourselves, to avoid cyber bullying let’s just ignore malicious messages and block that person.

      Therefore, we as an individual must know our limitations in using social media. Of course, don’t let social media as a reason in harming others life and also yours. And if you think that you are totally a media and information literate individual, share all your knowledge of learning’s through teaching or starting a campaign which many people will be aware in using any form of media and understand the real value of being a literate on.

          One plus one is equal to two. This is the way on how we recognize the number, but how the number relate on ourselves. Many people have a doubt of why the situation is not all about the alignment of our lines. Base in the measurement of weight of individual are not totally the same, it has their own decimal points will consider as complex. But why the one plus one is equal to two relates to this topic so-called fairness?

            I am just focusing on the social and mental interaction where the people cannot live without others. Many people said that no one in an island so that we might concerning on our ability. The people we met every day are part of our life as a living being. And by using our mind there have a judgement, the way we think about others can give conflict. One day, I saw a man who’s seating in a bench while reading a book then there has a man who came where he is, and a man that have a book looking at him, stand out and leave because a man that have a book saw the guy who’s seating near to him is not having an appropriate outfit (pauper). If we talk about society it’s a very sensitive issue where we are mostly affected, especially to those feminist group and LGBT advocacy that promote equality on the Philippines. They are having an organizational work through the implementation of it to our country, one of their objective in that kind of empowerment is the society development but not totally believing that it has not included the 3rd gender or the same sex marriage. When I heard that subject into ABS-CBN news, President Duterte don’t want to declare it because he believes that God created a man and woman where there have only 2 genders which are the male and female. Yes. So, the aspect like spirituality is most higher than the happiness in applying worldly deeds. It causes more damage if we have that subject. As of now, our country not included to the percentage of countries implementing the equality or the gender equality.

            Even were not having a declaration of gender equality, we must respect others on what they are. Because some of them are not supposedly good or understandable about the society. Instead we are the hope by helping to make them good enough. In one plus one is equal to two is about human can help human, the body will help another body to be equal in any aspects even though it has no implementation and declaration to be a law.

• As a consumer of an information, I have learned from the story is, I will not believe in any relayed information especially when it has no enough evidence and if I don't know the exact or what is the whole story. In order for me to believe in what they are saying I should see it for myself in order for me to analyse which is the truth behind the story.

2. As a producer of an information, what have you learned from the story?

• As a producer of an information, what I have learned from the story that before I will spread some information, of course it should be carried by a proof. If the information I've got has an exact evidence and it was well validated by the collected facts, it is safe for me to relay the information without any additional story, so that it won't affect my credibility as a person.

3. If you were in the woman's position and you saw the police officer resting comfortably during work hours, what would you do?

• If I were in the woman's position and I saw the police officer resting comfortably during work hours, I will ask the police officer if why is he taking a rest instead of doing his task. Maybe he is an excellent police officer and during that time he is not doing his task. Maybe he is an excellent police officer and during that time he is not doing well or feeling well, and he chooses to do his job even though he is not in good shape.

It empowers consumer by giving them the knowledge and tools to improve their economic wellbeing. It is the best investment we can make to strengthen our nation’s economy.

     According to google Media is the most powerful sector of an economy. It is a tool to maintain a balanced society which is characterized by well-informed people, effective democracy and social justice. In fact, media has unparalleled influence on all aspects of human life. The power of media and information in economy as today's generation many of the entrepreneur can sell/promote their products into online or using the internet. Economist recognize that developing basic economic and financial knowledge is an important goal for a democratic society that relies heavily on informed citizens and personal economic decision-making. When households are capable of building wealth, they are also capable of building more economically stable neighborhoods and communities. As we all know, the business of managing our money in this environment has become increasingly complicated. Technological advances continue to expand the range of financial services available to consumers. While choice and flexibility are certainly beneficial the consumer, they come with increased risks. Especially among consumers who lack the knowledge and resources to discern their choices.

     Social media is very important in terms of economy it is an effective way to allow others to know you and your brand and to form relationships that are built on trust, mutual respect and loyalty. Just because the economy has showed down a great deal does not mean that the pace of social media has slow down equally. If you invest the proper amount of time and effort in your social media strategy now, you will most likely come out of the recession stronger and more successful than ever.

        Media plays a very important role in our political system nowadays. maybe most of the people do appreciate and saw the importance of it.

        If the government has a control in media, for sure the government will take the advantage of it by putting their wring actions into a situation where they will hide it from the consciousness of the people and the worst thing happen is that they will put the democratic system of our country at stake. It has tendency that the media will be bias in terms of delivery of their news. For example, the news about the case of death which is related to the campaign of our government '' war on drugs'' has a big talked in our society right now. For instance, the TV Patrol is one of the most popular news station in the Philippines, in their daily reports i repeatedly saw and hear the same story of suspected drug addict's death because they were killed by the police and according to the news they were killed without seconds thought. There is news also about the war in Marawi, about a police officer who falsely killed the unarmed young man in person of Kian Delos Reyes. Is this negative news which is related to the campaign of the president is being repeatedly delivered and they merely used it against him.? Is this because they are affirmative on how our President handles our country and on how he strongly implements his campaign against drugs? Or it's because they want a different persona to be a president of this nation?

      As what they would say media is playing a big part in our society nowadays people are very dependent on it. It is not new for us if people can get a false information and they will react on it right away since it is the source of their daily information. But what people should develop is their critical thinking skills before they would believe in news flashed in the television they should listen to the both sides of the story rather than to criticize right away so that they will not be overpowered by the media.

      The world before and today have a big difference in any aspects especially in education, the people before who's continuously living until now it is have an adjustment in terms of using technology to deliver information through modern media ways unlike people who born in today's generation that is advance in everything and not late for the development of the world.

       Because all of those situations that also related in education, we must to run rapidly into the running world. and we must to take it seriously for the good impact of it to our life.

In terms of reporting an assigned topic to the students: 

    The day's before when students have an assignment, they gather information came from magazines, newspapers, books and other written information and if the information are not enough they will use media like interviews or observations of other people who know about the topic/assignment. after that's why they get enough information in different ways of media, she/he will report or use media like written on a blackboard or using visual aids. and the students will responsible to report or explain the topic assignment and expand by using many instances.

      But now, every student has their own gadgets because this generation is a digital generation where in every child sharpened their mind on how to use technology in their life. That's why after their going to research the topic assignment that came from internet like google included blogs, journals, published or unpublished books and other internet pages. and they will report the information that they think are enough to them, they will use technology like laptop, projectors to deliver information to the other students. And to make their report and they will make other slide show pictures for the development of report that they delivered through clicking and clicking. or now a day's, students do not

As a Humanities and Social Sciences student through studying this Media and Information Literacy those learnings teach me on how to use internet effectively and efficiently in everyday life.

According to the field of internet, the main means of communication in the traditional system have been largely influenced by the development of networks and especially by the internet, at its various levels.

            At the end of the topic this Media and Information Literacy enlightened my mind on how to access in the internet being ethical person. Having this subject, media and information literacy is very useful for me as a student and as an active online user especially of facebook. Through this I’ve learned that being a media and information literate individual, I must know how to evaluate information from all forms of media. Also, this subject taught me how to behave properly online. Actually, before this media and information literacy subject came into my life, I can consider myself as an illiterate one when it comes in media specifically in facebook. I am that “hugot queen” before, I used to post what I felt before. When I am mad and broken hearted I burst it out through posting on my facebook account. All those unaccepted words are included on my post, and I really want to hint someone on my post.

I remember before when I was in Grade 8, I am broken hearted that time. So, I post everything online until everyone already knew. Therefore, I ruin my own privacy and my image will wear out. That is why I am really thankful for having this subject. Because I already knew what is good and what is bad when it comes in media. Also, now I can slowly differentiate what information is right or wrong. But the big impact of media. Honestly, now when I am posting in my facebook account, first I am thinking if it is good or bad. I am proud that I change a lot. And I will steadily applied media and information literacy in my life.

Through this we understand what is the ages of technology and also by knowing the Traditional Media and New Media, Ethical use of Information, Information Literacy Skills, Types of media, Fundamental Elements of Media Literacy, Media and Information Languages, Media Representation, Plagiarism, Fabrication and Falsification and also the core rules and General Guidelines in interacting cyberspace, Societal Issues in the Information Age, Different Types of media effects and trends in media and information. All of that topics that we tackled is very important to us on how to communicate others by using social media and on how to interact with other people by using internet. We all know that social media is very important to us because by that we can get an information through using internet like facebook, twitter, instagram, google etc. That’s why this is how important in our daily lives. I really enjoyed this subject Media and Information Literacy because of our subject teacher who teaches us very well and she explained it very well also until we understand better what are those.
